The 66th anniversary of Independence of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka was celebrated in all corners of Kilinochchi in charm but proud ceremonies. Security Force Commander Kilinochchi Major General S Ranasinghe RWP RSP MSc ndu psc hoisted the national flag at the Security Force Headquarters while Mrs. R Ketheeswaran, District Secretary Kilinochchi hoisted the national flag at Kilinochchi District Secretariat on 4 February 2014. All government institutions, schools, shops, private institutions and vehicles had the proud Sri Lankan national flag flying all around turning the whole city into a mega ceremonial township. In many areas villagers, traders, farmers and children were seen watching the grand independence ceremony in Kegalle on television. The prevailing peaceful environment has paved the way for all communities celebrate true independence more than ever before.
