INAUGURATION OF GREENHOUSE PROJECT AT HEADQUARTERS 66 INFANTRY DIVISION

Materializing a view of the Commander Security Force Kilinochchi, Major General Harendra Ranasinghe on contributing the Government process of uplifting Agriculture through cultivating environmental friendly organic farms wherever possible by SL Army troops and the guidance of Major General Ajith Dissanayake, General Officer Commanding 66 Infantry Division, the Green house concept has been successfully initiated in the typical Poonryn climatic conditions.

Accordingly, a 1000 Sq.Ft Green House; as the first step supporting the cultivation programme was constructed by the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers troops attached to 66 Infantry Division. It was inaugurated on 29 May 2021 by the General Officer Commanding 66 Infantry Division Major General Ajith Dissanayake. Further, the Commander Security Force Kilinochchi also visited the green house site whilst the visit of inspecting the progress of civil affairs projects being conducted by 24 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 5(V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment.

The Cultivation of plants in this Greenhouse will provides a greater reflection of the SL Army’s contribution on current agriculture projects in the country. Besides that, the present tendency of cultivating plants by using organic pesticides, SL Army also has taken steps to support this process by introducing Greenhouse plantation of Argo-crops in Army camp premises.

Moreover, this will be the pilot project and would be utilized to enhance the knowledge of under command troops on greenhouse concept. As the second step, 66 Infantry Division will distribute Argo-plants among the selected low-income families in the Division Area of Responsibility in order to uplift the living standards of civilians.
