HASALAKA WAR HERO, CPL GAMINI KULARATNE REMEMBERED AND HONOURD ON HIS 28TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY

The 28th Death Anniversary of one of the most remembered war heroes in the recent past, late Corporal Gamini Kularatne of 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) who paid the supreme sacrifice on 13 July 1991 to prevent an enemy bulldozer ramming into the Elephant Pass garrison was commemorated on Sunday, 14 July 2019 at the monument erected as Gamini Kularatne’s memorial at Elephant Pass.

Commemorative arrangements began with an all-night Pirith chanting ceremony on Saturday (13) night, followed by offering of alms (Heel Daana) to Maha Sangha. The event was organized on the instructions of Brigadier M D Wijesundara RSP, General Officer Commanding, 66 Infantry Division with the supervision of the Commander 662 Brigade, Colonel P R Pathiravithana psc and his troops. The mother of late War Hero, Mrs S.G Juliet and a gathering of his relations attended in addition to Officers and Other Ranks of 66 Infantry Division.

On the following day (14) evening Major General GV Ravipriya WWV RWP ndu IG, Commander, Security Forces (Kilinochchi) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the Memorial Ceremony and set light to the eternal lamp near the statue and revered the heroic memory by placing a floral wreath at the foot. The War Hero’s mother, Mrs S.G Juliet, together with the General Officer Commanding, 66 Division, Senior Officers and few relatives of him paid their respects to the monument by placing floral wreaths.
