COMMANDER OF THE ARMY MAKES A SUDDEN VISIT IN KILINOCHCHI

Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid 19 Outbreak, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, paid a sudden visit in Kilonochchi on 31 October 2020.

Troops of 3 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment alert to the short notice, greeted him with a drive-pass Guard Turnout at the entrance of Security Forces Headquarters Kilinochchi, before he was warmly welcomed by the Commander Security Force Mullaittivu, Major General Jagath Rathnayake on behalf of Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, Commander Security Force Kilinochchi.

After a while, a discussion was held with the Commander of the Army, Commander Security Force Mullaittivu, Division Commanders, Principle Staff Officers of Security Force Kilonochchi, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (Kilinochchi), and Brigade Commanders at the conference hall.

Afterwards, Commander of the Army with all Senior Officers and the construction team visited the ongoing construction of the hospital complex at Krishnapuram, Kilinochchi of which the purpose is to treat Covid - 19 patients, and the construction is carried out with the support of the MOH Kilinochchi.

Later, the Commander of the Army addressed all Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Force Kilinochchi at Nelumpiyasa Auditorium. Commenting on Covid-19 epidemic, the visiting Commander of the Army told the gathering, that the Army, like in many other areas, has the pride of running the most number of Quarantine Centres in the country undertaking the challenge of this task at the request of HE the President.

“It is our bounden duty to take all preventive measures against the transmission of this pandemic among us as the most disciplined members of the Security Forces. That is why the Army was able to manage the situation with all precautions. I expect all of you to continue this alertness to the virus and behave accordingly in line with health guidelines, already issued to you,” Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva added.

General Officers Commanding, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (Kilinochchi), Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers and Officers were associated with the Commander’s itinerary in Kilinochchi.
