The Security Force Kilinochchi has organized the challenge trophy Volleyball tournament and Cricket tournament to improve the sports talents of troops in Kilinochchi. The event was scheduled in the month of December, however, due to bad weather conditions the event was postponed and organized in the month of January 2019.
The cricket tournament was organized by the 21st Sri Lanka Light Infantry under the supervision of the Commander 65 Division and with the guidance of commander 653 Brigade. 21st Sri Lanka Light Infantry won the championship and 11th Gajaba Regiment was the runners-up.
The Volleyball tournament was organized by the 3rd Gajaba Regiment under the supervision of commander 57 Division and with the guidance of commander 574 Brigade. After a close tussle between 1st Gajaba Regiment and 3rd Gajaba Regiment teams in the finals, 3rd Gajaba Regiment won the championship. Further, in order to build the peace and harmony between military and civilians in the area, two civil teams from K/Mankulam Maha Vidiyalaya and Karanchi sport club join in the competition. Karanchi sport club won the champions.
The General Officer Commanding 65 Division, Brigadier Wasantha Kumarapperuma was the chief guest in the Volleyball tournament award ceremony and the General Officer Commanding 66 Division, Brigadier Deepthi Jayathilake was the chief guest of the cricket tournament award ceremony. Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Other Ranks and school students participated the event.
