66 INFANTRY DIVISION INITIATED A COCONUT CULTIVATION PROGRAMME TO STRENGTHENING THE “THURU MITHURU – NAWARATAK” PROJECT

Another genuine step to strengthening “Thuru Mithuru – Nawaratak” project of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, 66 Infantry Division initiated a programme of cultivating 100 coconut saplings within the available lands of the camp complex. The General Officer Commanding, Major General Ajith Dissanayake virtually inaugurated programme on 05 July 2021 along with senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the Division.

In addition to strengthening the resilience and growth potential of the under privileged families of the area, a programme has been launched to distribute coconut saplings to plant in their home gardens, in line the intent of Commander Security Forces Kilinochchi Major General Harendra Ranasinghe.

On the direction of the General Officer Commanding, all under command formations also aligned the Division Headquarters in cultivating these constituent crops, which has significantly been a part of Sri Lankan life for centuries due to its close intimacy to day to day lives of the people. Coconut Development Board Palai provided the saplings and expert technical advisory in order to face the future challengers of this prominent agro product.
