66 DIVISION’S VESAK ZONE AT POONERYN

The annual Pooneryn Vesak Zone, organized by the 66 Infantry Division, in Pooneryn, Kilinochchi for the 2nd successive year got underway at Pooneryn Fort ground during 5 and 6 May 2018.

Pooneryn Vesak Zone came into effect as a programme to further enhance the goodwill and understanding between civilians and the Army, under the direction of General Officer Commanding 66 Infantry Division.

General Officer Commanding of 66 Division, Brigadier Deepthi Jayatilaka graced the event as the Chief Guest along with Brigadier General Staff of Security Force Headquarters Kilinochchi, Brigadier Jagath Rathnayaka, Brigade Commanders, many Senior Officers and Officers.

After the traditional oil lamp was lit, the Chief Guest, Brigadier Deepthi Jayatilaka switched on the lights in the ‘Vesak’ Zone, in which skillfully crafted many colourful lanterns were kept on display. Dansela and Vesak devotional songs featured prominently during the programme. More importantly Vesak devotional songs sang by the tamil school children of Jaffna Navatkuli Maha Vidyalaya.

More than 900 civil and military personnel were gathered to Pooneryn Fort Ground without religious discrimination.
