57 INFANTRY DIVISION ORGANIZED THE SECOND WORKSHOP TO OPERATIONALIZE A VIABLE MECHANISM FOR DISASTER MITIGATION DURING THE PERIOD OF NORTH EAST MONSOON

Having the scope of instituting an integrated disaster mitigation mechanism, the second workshop with the officials of government authorities engage in disaster mitigation in the District, was organized by 571 Infantry Brigade under the directions of the General Officer Commanding of 57 Infantry Division Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, on 23 November 2020. The workshop has been structured with the aim of reviewing the progress of preparation processes for the flood situation expected during the North East monsoon season. Further, the field commanders of 57 Infantry Division were given the opportunity to discuss the practical undefined areas when engaging in disaster mitigation and reliefs operations.

The General Officer Commanding of 57 Infantry Division, all Brigade Commanders, Colonel General Staff, all Civil Affairs Officers, and all Battalion Commanders participated for the workshop. Mr M Gokularajah - Assistant Director of Disaster Management Centre Kilinochchi, and Mr S Kumaran - the Chief Engineer of Irrigation Department, Kilinochchi also participated for the programme.
