In order to uplift the living standard of indigent people in rural villages in Kilinochchi, 57 Division took steps to distribute Swayanjatha paddy plants and seeds for 64 selected farmers. The General Officer Commanding of 57 Division, Major General Vijitha Ravipriya distributed two plants to each farmer during the brief ceremony held at Facilitating Centre Kilinochchi on 18 February 2019.
An awareness programme also conducted to the farmers about the plant, how it should be cultivated and explained upon the advantages of growing Swayanjatha paddy. Presently, the 57 Division is in the process of introducing Swayanjatha paddy plants for all farmers in Killinochchi district. This paddy does not need any fertiliser or agrochemical and grows in all weather conditions producing seeds throughout the year.
The Commanders of 571 and 572 Brigade, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated for the event.
