57 DIVISION LAUNCHED A TREE PLANTING PROGRAMME

57 Infantry Division launched a tree planting programme with the directions of Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa in order to facilitate the ‘Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak’ Eco-planting project which is executed to meet with a concept of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army with aiming to contribute for encouraging to preserve forest and beautify the environment.

In that, 1500 of endemic plants which include Mora (Dimocarpus longan), Jackfruit (Artocarpus Heterophyllus), Kumbuk (Terminalia Arjuna), and Mee (Madhuca Longifolia) etc were distributed among the Brigades, Battalions, and training school. In addition, it was introduced “Eco-Park” concept to maintain a dedicated area in every camp premises for planting and preserving endemic trees with natural values in support of the ‘Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak’ project. The inauguration of the project was marked at 57 Division - Murukkandi camp premises on 23 November 2020 by General Officer Commanding 57 Division. The Colonel General Staff, Colonel Administration and Quartering of 57 Infantry Division and Commanding Officer 9 SLSR attending the event.
