3RD GAJABA REGIMENT WINS INTER BATTALIONS VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN KILINOCHCHI
The annual Inter Battalions Volleyball Tournament of the Security Forces - Kilinochchi concluded on 29 May 2017 at the Harmony Volleyball Court Complex, Mankulam. It was launched on the directions of the Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi, Major General A Kariyakarawana USP ndc.\r\n\r\nThe Inter Battalions Volleyball Championship - 2017 of Security Force - Kilinochchi was completed by 35 Army Teams and 02 teams of civil sport clubs were participated. The league tournament took place during May 15 - 29.\r\n\r\nThe 24th Gamunu Watch and 3rd Gajaba Regiment teams had their encounter from the Army teams while Mankulam Minnoli sport club and Mulankavil Vinayagar sport club teams qualified for the finals from the civil sector.\r\n\r\nThe 3rd Gajaba Regiment team, after a closely-contested tussle against their counterparts in the 24th Gemunu Watch emerged victorious in the final encounter in Mankulam on 29 May 2017. Lance Corporal Lakmal of (3GR) was awarded the Player of the Tournament while the rest of the honours were awarded to Sergeant Medawaththa (3GR) as Best Setter of the finals, Private Sanjeewa was the (24 GW) Best Attacker of the Finals.\r\n\r\nIn the civil sector, it was the Mankulam Minnoli sports club team which emerged as champions after beating the team of Mulankavil Vinayagar sports club team. S. Rajendran (Mulankavil Vinayagar sports club), Arogya Antony and S.Sajeenkoch (Mankulam Minnoli sports club) were selected and awarded as the best attacker, best player and best setter respectively.\r\n\r\nThe tournament, organized by the 57 Division under the supervision of General Officer Commanding of 57 Division Major General Maj Gen H J S Gunawardhana RSP USP ndc psc and coordinated by under the guidance of Commander of 574 Brigade, Col N C Somaweera RWP RSP USP.\r\n\r\nMajor General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander of Security Forces - Kilinochchi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The trophies and certificates were given away by the Chief Guest to the winning and runners up teams both Army and Civil matches.\r\n\r\nSenior Military Officers, Officers and Other Ranks and large crowd of civilians were witnessed the event.\r\n
