1 YEAR AND 6 MONTH OLD TAMIL KID FELL INTO A WELL WAS RESCUED
One and half year old kid, Sirvakumar Sinduja$s life was rescued by S/167022 Cpl Wijetha Perera MW and S/467898 Cpl Leelarathna DM serve at the 3 Gajaba Regiment (3GR) established under 574 Bde in 57 Div in the SF HQ (KLN) AOR.
Complete story is as follows.
a. Whilst carrying out fatigue on 2 Oct 2014 after celebration of world children day, S/167022 Cpl Wijetha Perera MW and S/467898 Cpl Leelarathna DM heard, a Tamil woman in the village was screaming for a help as her little son fell in to the well. They both hurried to the place quitting their duty and tried to climb down to the harvest well using the rope which is approximately 25 feet in depth, since one and half year old kid was gradually drowning and struggling with life and death. Understanding delay causes to lose the opportunity of saving the life of this child, S/167022 Cpl Wijetha Perera MW leaped in to the well neglecting the danger for his own life.
b. Applying the trained skills and experience gained through Army, this soldier attempted to extract water by turning the kid upside down and pressing his tummy whilst holding the rope from his moth being in the well filled with water nearly 15 feet due to the rain.
c. S/467898 Cpl Leelarathna DM also leaped in to the well at once comprehending that S/167022 Cpl Wijetha Perera MW is unable to execute unaided without considering about his life.
d. They both together made efforts to extract water from the child. Suddenly the kid started crying. Mother of the kid threw a large pot into the well when these NOS asked help to get off the kid. The kid was got off from the well using the rope and the pot; by placing him in to the pot which tied to the rope.
3. Since these NCO$s immediate and appropriate actions, one and half year old small kid was able to rescue from untimely death.
4. Further both of these NCO$s are married and beloved fathers of children.
5. Comd SF (KLN) called up them to SF HQ (KLN) on 07 Oct 2014 and gave away mementos in appreciation of gallant deed.
