HISTORY
- During the last phase of the Humanitarian Operation in the Northern theatre, Army HQ issued instructions to establish a new formation in the cleared area on the western flank.
- As a result, TF 5 was established on 05 Dec 2008 in THUNUKKAI. 651 Bde HQ was established at MULANKAVIL on 15 Jan 2009.
- Its main tasks were to secure the area along with main routes and monitoring the coastal belt and belly areas.
- In initial deployment 12 Bns were under comd to 651 Bde.
- TF 5 was transformed in to a Inf Div and renamed as 65 Division on 01 July 2009, and since then 651 Bde has been placed under 65 Division.
