COMMANDER - GENERAL ENGINEERING BRIGADE

BRIEF HISTORY

General Engineering Brigade of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Engineers was raised on 28 October 2020 and established at Kachchigala Embilipitiya on 26 November 2020 with its first Brigade Commander, Brig DP Jayasinghe RSP. It was formed in order to Plan, coordinate and execute general construction, renovation projects and field engineering tasks. Further, to fulfil and conduct the engineering tasks related to school development projects and vertical constructions under the guidance of General LHSC Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, which are being instructed by His Excellency the President as per the concept of “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour”.

Following Field Engineer Regiments from Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and a Regiment from Corps of Engineer Service Regiment are operationally under commanded to the General Engineering Brigade in order to facilitate dynamic plant engineering works as nation building tasks.

MISSION

Our Mission is to be a professional and disciplined force to achieve desired goals through General Engineering Tasks ensuring maximum support for Nation building endeavours.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the General Engineering Brigade are to command and coordinate under command troops on all general engineering matters such as:

• Preparing Preliminary Investigation Reports (PIRs) for general construction projects assign to Engineer Division of Sri Lanka Army.
• Designing, Planning, Surveying and Cost Estimating.
• Constructions of buildings and play grounds, renovation of roads.
• Providing mechanical, technical and machinery support.
• Supervision and consultation of general construction projects.
• Execution of procurements and evaluation process.
• Perform all Field Engineer tasks when need.
• Assisting the local authorities in disaster situation.
• Accompany with the civil authorities and obtaining approvals.
• Perform any other duty assigned by the Commander of the Army.

ROLE AND TASKS

Role
Plan, coordinate and execute general construction, renovation projects and field engineer tasks.

Tasks

• Preparing Preliminary Investigation Reports in coordination with relevant civil authorities and general public for general construction projects assign to Engineer Division of Sri Lanka Army.
• Designing, planning and cost estimations whilst providing specifications for general construction projects in Engineer Division of Sri Lanka Army.
• Obtaining approvals from relevant authorities for general construction projects of Engineer Division of Sri Lanka Army.
• Execution of procurements and evaluation process throughout the projects with regard to construction materials, equipment and machinery used for general construction projects which are assigned to Engineer Division of Sri Lanka Army.
• Constructions of buildings and any other infrastructure development projects while providing mechanical and technical support.
• Supervision and consultation of general construction projects entrusted to complete within the given time frame.
• Assisting the local authorities in disaster situation when ordered by AHQ.
• Undertaking CIMIC activities authorized by the Army Headquarters in liaison with line Ministries/Local Authorities and all Security Force Headquarters.
• Perform all Field engineer tasks.
• Perform any other duty assigned by the Commander of the Army.
