Major General S P G Gamage RWP RSP USP

Major General SPG Gamage RWP RSP USP began his illustrious military career on January 2, 1991, when he enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet to the Sri Lanka Military Academy - DIyatalawa. After rigorous training, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on August 29, 1992. Demonstrating exceptional leadership, he took command of various platoon and field squadrons early in his career, including the 64 Plant Squadron of the 6 Field Engineer Regiment, showcasing his expertise in engineering operations.

His commitment to professional development was evident in his participation in specialized courses such as the Battalion Support Weapon Course in 1995 and the Young Officers' Course in Pakistan in 1999. Rising through the ranks, he was promoted to Lieutenant on March 10, 1995 and to the Captain on July 15, 1995. His operational and staff appointments during this period included service as an Intelligence Officer and Adjutant, demonstrating his versatility and adaptability.

As an Officer Commanding, he led the 82 and 83 Field Squadrons and later held pivotal training roles at the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) as the Officer Commanding Training Wing. His exceptional service earned him promotions to Major on June 1, 2002 Lieutenant Colonel on January 2, 2009.

He extended his expertise internationally, representing Sri Lanka in the 10th UN Contingent in Haiti (2009-2010) and playing a vital role in the Nepal Rescue and Relief Mission in 2015. These missions underscore his commitment to global humanitarian efforts. Additionally, he participated in critical inspections, such as evaluating the expired ammunition dismantling plant in China in 2016.

Major General Pradeep Gamage’s leadership was further recognized when he was promoted to Colonel in 2017 and later served as Commanding Officer of the 1 Field Engineer Regiment, General Staff Officer I (Coord) 52 Infantry Division, Colonel (GS) at the 22 Infantry Division. His expertise in engineering and strategy led to his role as the Brigade Commander for 231 Brigade and later 141 Brigade, during which he was promoted to Brigadier in December 2020.

He continued his distinguished career in senior staff appointments, such as Brigadier GS at the Security Forces Headquarters (W) and Director of Real Estate and Quartering at Army Headquarters. In September 2023, he assumed the duties of Centre Commandant at the Regimental Headquarters of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.

In May 2024, this senior officer was appointed Deputy General Officer Commanding of the 12 Infantry Division and subsequently took command as the General Officer Commanding of the Engineer Division. With over three decades of exemplary service, his career is a testament to his dedication, professional excellence, and significant contributions to both national and international military operations.
