With the guidance of Colonel of the Regiment Sir Lanka Light Infantry Major General JR Kulathunge RSP ndc psc, and under the supervision of Brigadier MP Gunasinghe RSP - the President of SLLI Cricket Committee held a inter battalion cricket tournament during 15 Feb to 19 Feb 19 at the Russel Hyne ground in RHQ SLLI. The tournament organized with the view of create platform for the amateur players in order to display their cricket skills, and ultimately select competent players to the regimental cricket pool.
More than 225 cricket players belonging to 17 battalions of the Sir Lanka Light Infantry vied for supremacy in the tournaments. 4 SLLI and 19 SLLI teams qualified for the grand final by defeating 8 SLLI and 25 SLLI respectively in the semifinals. Grand final was held on 27 February 2019 at the same ground.
With interesting encounters and very challenging tussle, championship was clinched by the cricketers in the 4 SLLI while cricketers of the 19 SLLI became as runner up in the tournament. S/323350 Corporal Udayanga BI (19 SLLI) was crowned as the Man of the Series’ and S/323388 Corporal Pushpakumara of the (4 SLLI) was awarded as the ‘Best Batsman in the inter battalion cricket Tournament 2019. Further S/ 330568 L/Cpl Prased SMBK (4 SLLI) awarded as Best Baller in the tournament.
Major General JR Kulathunge RSP ndc psc, Colonel of the Regiment Sir Lanka Light Infantry graced the event as the Chief Guest and awarded trophy and medals to the champions and Brigadier J Thanthiriwatte RWP awarded trophy and medals to the runner up. Moreover Senior Council Members, the Centre Commandant, Commanding Officers Senior Officers, Officers and a large number of Other Ranks made their presence during the finale and the closing ceremony of inter battalion cricket tournament - 2019.
