Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regimental Centre at Panagoda, marked its 29th Anniversary of founding with a series of commemorative events on Tuesday (23).
Major General J.R Kulathunga, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI graced the event as the Chief Guest at the request of Brigadier M.M Kithsiri, Centre Commandant, SLLI. On his arrival, he was greeted to a Guard Turnout and was honoured in a colourful parade, comprised of three Colours Squads, 24 Officers, 485 Other Rankers and the SLLI mascot, ‘Kandula’.
The Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI as the Chief Guest for the occasion reviewed the parade upon the request of the parade commander before he received the ceremonial salute.
Award of trophies and certificates to the battalions (volunteer and regular) who were adjudged the best (administrative inspection) in the years 2016 and 2017, best achievers in the 2018 inter regiment drill tournament and those who secured gold medals in the recent Asian Para Games took place after a little while. Major General Kulathunga gave away those laurels before he rose to his feet to address the gathering on this day of importance to SLLI all ranks.
A few minutes later, the day’s Chief Guest was invited to open the new ‘General’s Shalet’ in the premises, built by soldiers of the SLLI and Corps of Engineer Services. An All Rank lunch brought the day’s proceedings to an end.
