The Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival was celebrated by Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops with the participation of Officers and soldiers of the SLLI Regiment at the Russel Hyne grounds, SLLI Headquarters in Panagoda Army cantonment on Thursday (12).
Major General Ruwan Kulatunga, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI graced the event as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs Thushari Kulatunga, Chairperson, SLLI-SVU and a host of Senior Officers of the SLLI. The event was ceremonially opened with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp.
The event included many varieties of traditional games, sports, races and fun-making features in keeping with ancient customs which included Marathon, Tug of War, selection of Beauty Queen (Bakmaha Kumariya) and many more traditional games.
The event culminated with a colourful musical evening, backed by the regimental beat group.
Major General Sudath Perera, General Officer Commanding, 58 Division, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the regiment attended the ceremony.
