One more Sri Lanka Army contingent for UN Peace Keeping Missions is ready to take up peace keeping duties in the Republic of Mali. The dignified military parade was held at the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental parade ground on 30 November 2017 where Major General KADA Karunasekara RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Light Infantry graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
On arrival, a drive pass was accorded to the Chief Guest at the entrance to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry premises before he was cordially welcomed by the Brigadier MM Kithsiri RWP RSP USP, the Centre Commandant of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment. Afterwards, the Chief Guest on the occasion took the salute of the parade and inspected the ceremonial parade accorded by the Mali bound Combat Convoy Escorts which was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel KPL Amunupure RWP RSP SLLI.
As peace keepers to the UN mission in Mali, this strong contingent reinforced with many organic mechenaries including 16 Officers and 184 Other Rankers command by Lieutenant Colonel KPL Amunupure RWP RSP SLLI from the Sri Lanka Light Infantry will be the first batch of Sri Lanka Army. It goes to the proud history adding colours and valour to the oldest pioneer regiment in the Sri Lanka Army.
