The deafening sounds of combat had given way to the silence. The chaos and confusion of battle had yielded perfect, precise rows of peace. SLLI Fallen Heroes Memorial Ceremony was held on 22 Oct 16 to honour the brave Officers and Soldiers who died while in service to our grateful nation. More than 2500 family members of fallen heroes gathered in front of the SLLI war heroes monument with the pride and tears.
Col of the Regt, Maj Gen KADA Karunasekara RSP VSV USP ndu psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Former Army Commanders, Gen SHS Kottegoda (retd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc and Gen RMD Ratnayake (retd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc along with a gathering of serving and retired Senior Officers, Officers and Other Rankers assembled to reflect and honour our brave heroes.
This was the first SLLI war heroes memorial ceremony after being unveiled and dedicated of SLLI war heroes monument on 26 Oct 15 by HE the President Hon Maithripala Sirisena. We are grateful to Gen RMD Ratnayake (retd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc for founding SLLI War Heroes Monument. Further it is planned to hold SLLI Fallen Heroes Memorial Ceremony annually.
