War Heroes' Monument

The Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment is a regiment that directly contributed to the brutal terrorist war that lasted for almost three decades and defeated the terrorists. In this regard, 159 officers and 3582 other ranks of the regiment sacrificed their lives for the motherland and a significant numbers of officers and other ranks have become permanently disabled. This South Asia's biggest War Heroes' Monument was constructed within the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment Headquarters, Panagoda as a mark of respect and gratitude for their sacrifice and dedication.

As per the concept of the then Colonel of the Regiment Major General RMD Ratnayake WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc, the foundation stone of the War Heroes Monument was laid by the Secretary to the President, Mr. Lalith Weeratunga on the occasion of the completion of 20 years of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Headquarters on 23.10.2009.

The specialty of the construction of this War Heroes Monument is that 90% of the construction work was carried out by the troops belonging to this regiment. His Excellency the President opened the Sri Lanka War Heroes Monument on 26.10.2015.
