“ABIMAN MUDUNATHA” WAR HEROES COMMEMORATION CEREMONY 2022

Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment in congruence with its 141st Regimental day anniversary as the pioneers of the Sri Lanka Army solemnized its annual commemoration on 25 October 2022 that embodied the supreme price paid by the brave sons of our motherland who’s sacrificed their lives in order to preserve the peace and harmony in our motherland.

The commemoration day events were held with the patronage and the extensive directions of Colonel of the Regiment of SLLI and Chief of Staff Major General Jagath Kodituwakku RWP RSP ndu, further chapter was decorated greater significance with the participation of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Colonel of the Regiment.

Moreover, former Commanders of the Army General Shantha Kottegoda (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, General Daya Ratnayake (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc the forefather of the gigantic and bravura SLLI War Heroes’ monument, “ABIMAN MUDUNATHA”, past Colonels of the Regiment, Beloved parents, spouses and children of SLLI War Heroes, SLLI veterans, Senior Officers, Other Ranks and invitees at the 141st anniversary day commemorations added great significance to the SLLI family. Since the foundation of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment in 1881 up to the culmination of the humanitarian operation 3,744 SLLI Officers and Other Ranks have martyred with utmost bravery and valor thereby unite the Motherland under a single banner offers us a great sense of pride.

The Commander of the Army, Senior Officers, Officers and family members of fallen ones then followed suit carrying flowers and lined up to pay their respect to the War Heroes who scripted an unprecedented tale of sacrifice, heroism and valour during war, Further, the annual commemoration was organized in an exceptional way by recompensing due respect to the Military etiquette’s and customs.

As a another item of the commemoration day event RHQ SLLI organized an annual pirith chanting ceremony and alms giving (Dana Puja) was conducted blissfully to invoke virtues to the war heroes and their families. The “Karaduwa” was accompanied to the pirith ceremony under effervescent lightings and blissful flora fragrance which made the Perahera event culturally look rich. The regimental and unit colours, which symbolize the loyalty, spirit and traditions emblazoned with Battle Honours, were blessed finally. The overall event was supervised and well monitored by the Centre Commandant, staff officers and all other ranks of the SLLI and Sri Lanka Light Infantry Col Sujith Kulasekara WWV RWP RSP with the assistance of 1 SLLI and 8 SLLI.
