War Heroes Monument declared open .......

1. With the origination of the Boer war (1900) up to 18 May 2009 over 3868 brave personnel of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry have made the supreme sacrifice to protect the unity and sovereignty of the country while over 5000 personnel were wounded in action and became disabled.Inview of above, to commemorate those fallen soldiers, a monument is being constructed at the Regimental Headquarters of Sri Lanka Light Infantry as a tribute to their memory and the unfathomable sacrifices made to safeguard the territorial integrity. This monument is one of the biggest monuments in the South Asian region with an 80 ft height and covering an area of over 3500 sq ft. \r\n\r\n2 This newly constructed \"War Heroes\" Monument was declared open by HE the President Maithripal Sirisena on 26 Manday, October 2015. With the Chief Guest HE the President Maithripala Sirisena, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi - Secretary Defence, Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunathilaka, Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen Crishantha de Silva - Commander of the Army, Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinhala - Commander Air Force, Mr. Chandrarathne Pallegama - Director General Civil Security Department, Senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army, Former Commanders of the Army Gen Daya Ratnayake and Gen Shantha Kottegoda, other serving and retired senior officer and Other Rankers of Sri Lanka Light Infantry and nearly 400 members of the fallen War Heroes families were attend for the event. \r\n\r\n War Heroes monument is consist with following features \r\n\r\n The dedication and commitment made by our war heroes have been depicted in elaborated painting on the inner space of the monument which is name as the \"Freedom Path\".\r\n\r\n All 3868 names of the fallen war heroes belonging to the home of Light Infantry have been imprinted on wall plaque in the middle of the monument. Beside that war heroes museum wall painting and statues have been erected that depict the various occasions of the \"soldier\'s life\". \r\n\r\n The \"Graffiti Wall\" illustrates the inner thoughts of the soldiers when they were at the battle front. In addition to that an auditorium is built inside the monument with a seating capacity of 75 persons to show 10 minutes running short video clips of each KIA soldier.\r\n
