A WAR HERO OF THE SLLI WAS OFFERED A HOUSE

According to the conceptual notion of the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General KJ Jayaweera RWP RSP USP rcds, the special Housing Project was commenced in view offered 20 houses for the families of the fallen war heroes and the differently-able soldiers of Sri Lanka Light infantry has successfully accomplished with the assistances and patronages from few donors. As the 1st phase of these endeavors, the house constructed under supervision and effort of the 6 SLLI was handed over to Mrs HM Chandra Kanthi, the beloved spouse of late L/ Cpl Tikiri Bandara whom made supreme scarification on behalf of the motherland in Kovil area due to a mortar attack of ruthless LTTE on 16 February 2008.

The entire expenditure of the construction of this fully fledge residence estimated as over 1.3 million was borne by philanthropist Mr SR Gnanam, the Managing director Tokeyo Cement Pvt Ltd along with the engineering assistance of Mr Mauli Gunarathne The Consulting Engineer of the same institute. The house warming ceremony was briefly held on 16 November 2020 amid religious blessings, invoked by members of the Maha Sangha and The key to this new house was handed over to Mrs HM Chandra Kanthi by the Colonel of the Regiment. The members of Regimental Council, The Centre Commandant, officers and soldiers were present on the occasion.
