Sri Lanka Light Infantry Show Comradeship In Their Felicitation Ceremony Hosted For Retired

Having organized a colorful and dignified ceremony at the Youth Centre auditorium, Maharagama, Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) under the guidance of Major General RMD Ratnayake RWP RSP USP ndu psc hosted a felicitation for their retired officers and men on Thursday (16 June). Altogether 300 more retired Sri Lanka Light infantry officers and men from the rank and file to Major Generals attended the mammoth ceremony and shared their nostalgic memories connected to Sri Lanka Light Infantry with the serving officers and men now in the same SLLI family who had hosted the event. The day\'s ceremony titled \"Udarai Oba\" or \"We are proud of you\" began with two minutes silence in remembrance of all War Heroes who sacrificed their lives in their duty of safeguarding the country, followed by lighting the traditional oil lamp. The welcome address was delivered by Brigadier WDLP Wickramasinghe RSP, the President Sri Lanka Light Infantry Association. Speaking on the occasion, Major General RMD Ratnayake who was also the Chief Guest commended the unmatched services rendered by those Sri Lanka Light Infantry officers and men. The Chief Guest\'s speech brought to light that the Sri Lanka Light Infantry with those valiant men who are now retired had been the vanguard during all known Sri Lanka Army military operations in the history as was evident in the recently concluded humanitarian operations that won over LTTE terrorist outfit. He also showed that the good old traditions of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry preserved by them remains still in high spirit. In addition, he did not forget to thank the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Light Infantry under Colonel KJ Jayaweera RSP who had organized the event in grandeur. \"Sri Lanka Rupavahini\" war correspondent who was always with the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental troops to report the frontline battles also attended the occasion and a specially designed model of a bugle was presented to him by the Chief Guest in recognition of his services. The curtain fall of the ceremony marked a grand lunch for which all retired Sri Lanka Light Infantry officers and men attended with their new generation under the Command of Major General RMD Ratnayake RWP RSP USP ndu psc, the Colonel of the Regiment Sri Lanka light Infantry who is also the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.
