SRI LANKA LIGHT INFANTRY BOXING TEAM DECORATED WITH BRONZE MEDAL IN INTER-REGIMENT NOVICES BOXING TOURNAMENT YEAR 2019

Inter-regiment Novices Boxing tournament organized by the Army Boxing Committee was held at the Army Indoor Stadium Panagoda from 12 to 15 February 2019 and the boxing team of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry which trained precisely under direct supervision of the Colonel of the Regiment Major General Ruwan Kulathunga and the President of Sri Lanka Light Infantry boxing pool Colonel Wasantha Liyanawaduge was able to secure the overall 2nd Runner up and awarded with bronze medal in this tournament.

More than 104 boxing players belonging to 14 Regiments of the Army, were played under 10 different weight classes in this tournament and the boxing team of Sri Lanka Light Infantry was awarded with one gold medal, one silver medal and two bronze medals. S/ 333399 Pte Dasanayake DMM won the gold medal of 56 Kg weight class and the silver medal of the 52 Kg weight class was won by S/329276 L/Cpl Abeyratne RMRM. Further, two bronze medals were awarded to S/ 333538 Pte Bandara JMPAD and S/333291 Pte Ramanayake MH for the weight classes of 64 Kg and 81 Kg in respectively.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake was graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest and Brigadier MM Kithsiri the Senior Council Member of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Colonel Anura Disanayake the Centre Commandant of Regimental Headquarters Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Staff Officers, Sport Officers, Officers and a huge gathering of Boxing fans were presented at the occasion. The Commander of the Army, who was the Chief Guest, received the medals and awards along with the certificates for the winners of the difference weight classes.
