Major General MM kithsiri RWP RSP USP was born on 04 August 1964 at Nawalapitiya. He was a product of Mahawali College in Katugasthota and he was very clever student in borth academic and sports. He was very popular sportsmen in school.
Major General MM kithsiri RWP RSP USP enlishted to the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 16 January1986, and completed his initial Officer Cadet training at prestigious Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyathalawa. At the termination of the basic training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and subsequently posted to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment on 28 March 1987.
Major General MM kithsiri RWP RSP USP has followed numerous local and overseas courses in various fields such as psycology operation ,disaster management ,IHL&HR,Young Officer carrier course –India,Senior Comd Course-India,Asian pcific region multinational worshop –Japan,Bde Comd Course-China in view of enhance his professional knowledge in order to perform entrusted duties as competent manner.He had held most of key appointments in the Battallion and rendered his valuble service for sovereignty and initergrity of the motheland.He was decorated with Rana Weera Padakkama(RWP) ,Rana Soora Padakkama (RSP) for his bravary action against LTTE.
In his extended military career over the period of 33 years, he rendered his valuble servise in various capacities in Command, Instructional and Staff appointments from the elementary level up to the higher level to-date. some of key appointments that he held were Commanding Officer of 4SLLI Second in Command 6 Battalion UNPKF Haiti ,Commander 525,613,533,111Bdes, Commanding Officer16 Battalion UNPKF Haiti,Centre Commandant Regt Centre SLLI ,and Director of Directorete of Psycologycal Operations AHQ.
Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops bid farewell to the outgoing Maj General MM Kithsiri RWP RSP USP, on 06 August 2019 on his retirement and the ceremony was formally held in keeping with military traditions at the SLLI Regimental Headquarters premises in Panagoda.
Events commenced with a ceremonial Guard Turnout followed by the Guard of Honour with the participation of Senior Officres, Officers ORs from all Units and commemoration of war heroes by laying flower wreath to the war heroes monument.The day’s event was also included a all ranks tea at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess and troops address. The programme of events culminated with a ‘Guest Night’ hosted for Maj Gen MM Kithsiri RWP RSP USP and Mrs Rukmi Lokupathirage by Senior Officers, Officers and their Spouses in the Regimental Officers’ Mess. Finally, Brig MD Wijesundara RSP has deliver a speech to appricate his valuble long sevice. On behalf of members of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Maj Gen LM Mudalige RWP RSP ndu the Col of the Regt has presented a special memento and wish him for a future endeavor.
