OUT GOING MAJOR GENERAL MD WIJESUNDARA RSP SRI LANKA LIGHT INFANTRY SALUTED IN GUARD OF HONOUR

Major General MD Wijesundar RSP was born on 26 April 1965 at Anuradhapura. He was a product of St Josap College in Anuradhapura and very clever student in borth academic and sports. He was very popular sportsmen in school.

Major General MD Wijesundara RSP enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 31 March 1986, and completed his initial Officer Cadet training at prestigious Sri Lanka Military Academy at Diyathalawa. At the termination of the basic training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and subsequently posted to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment on 28 March 1987.

In his extended military career over 34 years, he rendered his valuble servise in various capacities in Command, Instructional and Staff appointments from the elementary level up to the higher level to-date.

Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops had not bid farewell to the outgoing Maj General MD Wijesundara RSP, on 26 April 2020 on his retirement due to the Corona pandemic in last few months and the ceremony was formally held on 14 August 2020 in keeping with military traditions at the SLLI Regimental Headquarters premises in Panagoda.

Events commenced with a ceremonial Guard Turnout followed by the Guard of Honour with the participation of Senior Officers, Officers ORs from all Units and commemoration of war heroes by laying flower wreath to the war heroes monument. The day’s event was also included a all ranks tea at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess and group photo with Officers and senior NCOs . The programme of events culminated with a ‘Guest Night’ hosted for Maj Gen MD Wijesundara RSP and Sumithra Wijesundara by Senior Officers, Officers and their Spouses in the Regimental Officers’ Mess. Finally, Maj Gen KJ Jayaweera RWP RSP USP rcds the Col of the Regt has deliver a speech to appreciates his valuble long service. On behalf of members of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, the Col of the Regt has presented a special memento and wish him for a future endeavor.
