Major General JR Ampemohotti was born on 24 July 1964 at Ragama. He was a product of Royal college in Colombo and he was very clever student in borth academic and sports specialy for Boxing. He was very popular sportsmen in school.
Major General JR Ampemohotti enlishted to the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 06 of June 1985, thereafter completed his initial Officer Cadet training at prestigious Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyathalawa. At the termination of the basic training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and subsequently posted to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army on 25 of April 1986
Major General JR Ampemohotti RSP has followed numerous local and overseas courses in various fields of studies in view of enhance his professional knowledge in order to perform entrusted duties as competent manner.He had held key appointments in the Battallion and rendered his valuble service for sovereignty and initergrity of the motheland.During the deadly battle of "Jayashakthi" against the LTTE he was injured due to terrorist sniper attack on 17th October 1990. He was decorated with Rana Soora Padakkama (RSP) for his bravary action to ptotect motherland during operations.
His exceptional unique performances during operations against the LTTE have been well-recognized as a battlefield commander and well regognized leader who had high motivating capabilities.
In his extended military career over the period of 34 years, he rendered his valuble servise in various capacities in Command, Instructional and Staff appointments from the elementary level up to the higher level to-date. Among several key appointments that he held were Commanding Officer of Head Quarter Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Course Officer of Sri Lanka Military Academy, Staff Officer 1 and Deputy Director of Directotate of Rehbilitation,and Director of Directorete of Humen Rights and Humentarion Law AHQ.
Though He was under low medicle category his courage and strength brought him to the most decisive rank Maj Genarel in the Sri Lanka army .Maj General JR Ampemohotti RSP had shown his capability through the sports and music field This Senior Officer participaterd for international para Games in several countries and won medels and army colours too from varoius events such as air riffle shooting, archering, badminton and wheel cheir marathon.Furteher He improverd his music fied and attended to Ranawiru Real Star music competition and won fourth place keeping this historic Regiment on proud position in Real Star programme.
Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops bid farewell to the outgoing Maj General JR Ampemotti RSP, on 23 July 2019 on his retirement and the ceremony was formally held in keeping with military traditions at the SLLI Regimental Headquarters premises in Panagoda.
Events commenced with a ceremonial Guard Turnout followed by the Guard of Honour with the participation of Senior Officres, Officers ORs from all Units and commemoration of war heroes by laying flower wreath to the war heroes monument.The day’s event was also included a all ranks tea party, at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess and troops address. The programme of events culminated with a ‘Guest Night’ hosted for Maj Gen JR Ampemohotti RSP and Mrs Dilrukshi Ampemotti by Senior Officers, Officers and their Spouses in the Regimental Officers’ Mess. Finally, on behalf of members of Sri Lanka Light Infantry Maj Gen LM Mudalige RWP RSP ndu the Col of the Regt has presented a special memento and wish him for a future endeavor.
