Brigadier HDG Ranasingha USP was born on 20 October 1964 at Rathnapura. He was completed his primary education at Alosias College Rathnapura and higher education from Dharmapala Collage Pannipitiya. He was very clever student in both academic and sports. He was very popular sportsmen in school.
Brigadier HDG Ranasingha USP enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 02 June1986, and completed his Officer Cadet training at prestigious Military Academy in Pakistan. At the termination of the basic training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and subsequently posted to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment on 22 January 1987.
Brigadier HDG Ranasingha USP has followed numerous local and overseas courses in various fields such as Young Officer Carrier course India, Peace keeping operation course India, mid carrier course Pakistan, Senior Comd Course-India, in view of enhance his professional knowledge in order to perform entrusted duties as competent manner. He had held most of key appointments in the Battalion and rendered his valuable service for sovereignty and integrity of the motheland.He was decorated with Uththama Seva Padakkama(USP) for his unblemished service.
In his extended military career over the period of 33 years, he rendered his valuable service in various cap,acities in Command, Instructional and Staff appointments from the elementary level up to the higher level to-date. Some of key appointments that he held were Adjutant Regtl Adjt SLLI, Second in Command of 4 SLLI and 1 SLLI ,OTO of 1st Haiti Contingent and Camp Comdt Kilik Commanding Officer PSD Battalion, SO1 22 Division, Commander 242 Bde, CEO Thalsevana Resort KKS and overlooking GOC 2 Division.
Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops bid farewell to the outgoing Brigadier HDG Ranasingha USP , on 19 October 2019 on his retirement and the ceremony was formally held in keeping with military traditions at the SLLI Regimental Headquarters premises in Panagoda.Events commenced with a ceremonial Guard Turnout and commemoration of war heroes by laying flower wreath to the war heroes monument. The day’s event was also included a troops address, group photograph and a all ranks tea at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’.
The programme of events culminated with a ‘Dinner’ hosted for Brigadier HDG Ranasingha USP by Senior Officers of Regimental Council, Officers, in the Regimental Officers’ Mess. Finally, Brig KWR De Abrew RWP RSP USP psc Hdmc has deliver a speech to appreciate his valuable long service. On behalf of the Col of the Regt and All Officers of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Maj Gen HMJK Gunarathna WWV RWP RSP ndc psc has presented a special memento and wish him for a future endeavor.
