New Commander Hosted at SLLI Regimental Headquarters
Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops of the Army in conforming with military traditions presented a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour to their Colonel of the Regiment Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, the new Commander of the Army on Friday (9) at SLLI Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda.
On his arrival at the premises, a Guard Turnout greeted him after he was welcomed by Major General K. A. D. A Karunasekara. Later on, he was ushered to the main area for receipt of military honours in a Guard of Honour, accompanied by the SLLI Regimental mascot, ‘Kandula’.
As melodies of patriotic songs rent the air, the Commander of the Army, the Chief Guest for the occasion reviewed the parade upon the request of the parade commander Captain A. P. T. Ganesh, before he received the salute.
As the first segment of the day’s itinerary, the Commander was invited to declare open the new Volleyball court prepared and constructed by SLLI soldiers them self.
After few minutes the Commander on whose concept “Udarai Oba†welfare project of the SLLI was initiated, gave away loan segments to 22 SLLI totally disabled war heroes.
Under this programme 10 totally disabled war heroes receive Rs 100,000.00 each and 12 more got 25,000.00, to be deducted from their salary while in service.
In his brief address to the gathering the Commander underlined the importance of maintaining strict discipline all time. He further warned he would not tolerate any behavior that goes beyond their legitimate duties.
The Commander also assured that he would do his utmost to address any lack of facilities in the Regiment in the near future.
Later on, the Commander were to attend a Guest Night, organized by the SLLI Regimental Headquarters where he was to take part in a dinner treat in the company of a representative gathering of Officers.
