MAJOR GENERAL MIHIDU PERERA RWP RSP USP TRIBUTED BY MOTHER REGIMENT TROOPS ON HIS RECENT PROMOTION TO THE RANK OF MAJOR GENERAL

Major General GMN Perera RWP RSP USP was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army on 14 July 1989 as an Officer Cadet with Intake 32 of the Sri Lanka Military Academy and commissioned on 19 January 1991 as a Second Lieutenant and joined with 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry. He has held all appointments till he became the Operation and Training Officer of the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, thereafter; he took over the office as the 2 IC of the 7th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry. Later, he was fortunate to command 7th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry. The gallant senior officer was able to join with 7 UN peace keeping contingent as an Officer Commanding in order to maintain the international peace and harmony.

He has shown his capabilities and capacities in both instructor and staff appointments, where he became SO III – Dte of PA, SO II (A) 11 Div, BM –Air Mob Bde, OC (Admin) RHQ SLLI, CI – Institute of Peace Support Operations Training, SO 1 (A) – RHQ SLLI, SO 1 (A) Log Comd, Col (GS) – 21 Div, Deputy Centre Commandant – SLLI, Comd – 591 Inf Bde, Comd – 231 Inf Bde, Deputy Commandant – AWC and Director Recruiting Army Headquarters.

He has followed many local and foreign courses during his unblemished military career and some of them are Regimental Signal Officer course, Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management - Open University of Sri Lanka, Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management - Chartered Institute of Personal Management, MSc in Human Resource Management - University of Colombo, Managing Defence in Wider Security Context Course – British High Commissioner Office and he is a proud member of the 1st course of National Defence College in Sri Lanka. Further, he has followed, Higher Defence Management Orientation Course – India, Unit Command and Staff Officer Course – Bangladesh.

The gallant, dedicated and decorated senior officer has participated for the operations against the LTTE from 1991 to Wanni Humanitarian Operation and he was wounded in action during Operation “TIGER CHASE” in 1991. During his 33 years of illustrious military career, he was awarded Rana Wickrama Padakkama twice, Rana Sura Padakkama trice in order to appreciate his bravery and valour. Moreover, he was awarded Uttama Seva Padakkama in order to appreciate his distinguish and unblemished military career.

The said senior officer was promoted to the rank of Major General on 19 August 2022. It is a tradition of Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment to convey the warm wishes and greetings for the senior officers who are promoted to the Rank of Major General. Thereby he was tributed by the guard turnout and guard of honour in the morning on Friday 02 September 2022 and followed by wreath laying at ‘Abhiman Mudunatha’ the war heroes’ monument in order to commemorate the fallen war heroes. Thereafter, all officers who were presented at there appeared for the group photograph with newly promoted Senior Officer, then Maj Gen Mihidu Perera addressed the Senior Officers, Officers and all Other Ranks who were present there. The traditional ceremony was ended up with an all ranks tea party where Maj Gen Mihidu Perera was interacted with regimental troops.

This gala event was organized on the instructions and guidance of the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, Colonel of the Regiment Sri Lanka Light Infantry Maj Gen TJ Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu and the supervision of the Centre Commandant Brig TCK Peiris RWP RSP. Members of the Regimental council, Senior Officers, Officers, RSM and Other Ranks presented for the gala ceremony.
