Maj Gen Thusitha Silva was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Volunteer Force as an Officer Cadet on 02 August 1989 and followed the basic training from Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa. Up on his commissioned as a Second Lieutenant he was joined with 5 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry Battalion on 30 April 1990.
He has displayed his all-round skills and capabilities while performing the duties in various instructor and Staff appointments, specially; GSO 3 (Trg) and SO 2 (Rec) in HQ SLAVF, 2IC 14 (V) SLLI, CO 22 SLNG, CAO 61 Inf Div, Senior Coordinating Officer (Trg) – Ranaviru Resource Centre, Instr (Psy) – Rehabilitation Education Director Office, Col (Coord) – 54 Inf Div, Col (AQ) – HQ SLAVF, Brig (AQ) – HQ SLAVF (Overlooking), Brig (Coord)- SFHQ (MLT), IOT – HQ SLAVF and Deputy Commandant of the SLAVF at present.
He has followed number of local courses such as, Pl Comd course, YO Course, Psy Ops course, Higher Civil Coord course, HRM course, Disaster Management course, Higher National Diploma in Human Relations and Family Counselling. Further, he obtained Masters in HRM at University of Colombo. He has followed Junior Command Course in India. A well dedicated and educated senior officer who was actively participated the war against the LTTE from 1990 and he was awarded KSP in appreciation of his unblemished service.
The days proceedings were started with the Guard Turnout and Guard of honour which is presented to pay the tribute for his new rank, and followed by series of events including, wreath laying to fallen War heroes at Abhiman Mudunatha, Group Photograph, Troop Address and finally a tea party. The gala event was organized under the instructions of Major General TJ Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regt SLLI.
