INAUGURATION OF YOGHURT PROJECT

The Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment has been launched numerous welfare projects with the intention of enhance the living standard and welfare facilities at the Regimental Centre in recent past. As a another phase of these endeavor, a “ Yoghurt Project” was planned to commenced in accordance with the conceptual notion of the Major General Jayanath Jayaweera, the Colonel of the Regiment and the Commandant OCDC as a welfare project under the Regimental Seva Vanitha Unit. The whole expenditures of this welfare project was borne by the Regimental Seva Vanitha Unit based on the unanimous decision taken by Mrs Anuja Jayaweera the distinguish president and members of the Regimantal Seva Vanitha Unit. Provide high quality and delicious yoghurt production under reasonable price to soldiers is the main objective of this mammoth project and it was successfully completed under the directions of Brigadier Anura Dissanayake , the Centre Commandant and the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Ruwan Siriwardena, the Staff Officer 1 (Administration).The Yoghurt Project has been upgraded with modern technology and capable to product Yoghurt,Yoghurt Beverage and Fresh Milk as well.

The newly-erected Regimantal Seva Vanitha Unit’s “ Yoghurt Project” was ceremonially inaugurated by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Major General Jayanathh Jyaweera, the Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI and Commandant OCDC. The Chief Guest was warmly welcome by the Colonel of the Regiment upon his arrival along with the unique regimental customary way. After a while, Commander of the Army unveiled the plaque and opened the newly-erected “ Yoghurt Project” amid religious blessings, invoked by members of the Maha Sangha. Major General Jayanath Jayaweera upon completion of the day’s event gave away a special memento to the Chief Guest as a token of appreciation. Distinguish members of the Seva Vanitha Unit, Members of the Regimental Council, Senior Officers and Regimantal Staff were present on the occasion.
