On 28 October 2022, the Sri Lankan Light Infantry known as the oldest Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army proudly and jubilantly celebrated 141st Anniversary. In accordance with Army Special Order, the first Battalion of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry was established on 30 June 1989 in the Army Cantonment, Panagoda and the Regimental Headquarters was established in the same premises with the motto of “Serve” in unprecedented determination of protecting territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland.
The inauguration ceremony of the 141st Anniversary celebration ice-broke with a presence of Guard Turnout at the main entrance of the Regiment to the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu as the Chief Guest and conduct of Guard of Honour at the Parade Ground. Afterwards, the Chief Guest posed for a group photograph with all Officers and Other Ranks and then a timely and profound speech was delivered before the troop. The next was award of trophies and certificates for the winners and runner’s up of regular, volunteer regiments at the annual admin inspection and inter regiment drill completion in the year 2022.
One of the special events of the 141st aniversry celebration was to decalre open of the newly installed mini bar in club house, which was a brainchild of the Colonel of the Regiment. All rank lunch was held at the ORs’ Mess with the grace of the Colonel of the Regiment while having an intimate interactive session with the regimental persionnel. The event which was streered under the close guidance of the Colonel of the Regiment and direct supervision of Center Commandant, Col Sujith Kulasekara WWV RWP RSP was also attended by a lot of Regiment praticipants including the council members, senior officers, officers and other ranks.
