20 SLLI SHINED IN THE INTER BATTALION FIRING COMPETITION WHILE 2(V) SLLI EXCELLED IN INTER BATTALION CHESS TOURNAMENT 2019

With the guidance of Maj Gen JR Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Colonel of the Regiment SLLI and the Commandant of DSCSC Batalanda, and the supervision of Brig GMCKB Ekanayake WWV RWP RSP psc the Commandant of MSTS Inter Battalion Firing Competition and Inter Battalion Chess Tournament were held in Diyatalawa with the intent of select skillful and talented players to the regimental teams for contest in forth coming inter regiment firing and chess tournaments. Notably, this chess tournament was the first chess tournament in the sports history of Sri Lanka Light Infantry and as far as last inter battalion firing competition concern, it was the first firing competition organized after period of ten years in the Sri Lanka Light Infantry. Prize awarding ceremony of the both competitions were held in grand scale on 15 March 2019 at the Regimental Headquarters SLLI.

Regimental Firing Committee organized the Inter Battalion Firing Competition 2019 was held at the field firing range Diyatalawa from 18 January to 28 January 2019. Shooting teams representing all battalions in the Sri Lanka Light Infantry consisting 180 shooters had been participated for the competition. Shooters of the 20 SLLI secured the overall championship by displaying outstanding firing performances in the competition. Shooters of the 11 SLLI and 6 SLLI were secured the 1st Runner-up and the 2nd Runner-up respectively. Maj TMER Thennakoon SLLI (CO - 5(V) SLLI) scored the highest marks and was crowned as the Best Shot in the competition. Best individual performances were evaluated in the competition according to ranks and name of the winners as follows:

Further, Inter Regiment Chess Competition was held from 10 Feb to 11 Feb 19 at the MSTS Diyatalawa with participation around 100 chess players belonging to 16 battalions of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry and contended for the supremacy in the tournaments. With very challenging tussle, championship of the chess competition was clinched by the chess competitors of the 2(V) SLLI. 10 SLLI and 8 SLLI won the Runner up and 2nd Runner up in respectively. In the individual performances, S/D101443 Pte Weerasingha JMR (2(V)SLLI) was crowned as the Best Chess Player while O/18852 2/ LT ACP Kumara SLLI (5(V)SLLI) won the 2nd place and S/D00423 L/Cpl Jayarathna HPJR (21(V)SLLI) won the 3rd place in the Inter Battalion Chess Competition 2019.

Maj Gen JR Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Colonel of the Regiment SLLI and the Commandant of the DSCSC graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and awarded trophies, medals and certificates to the champions and best individual performances in both competitions. Maj Gen JR Ampemohotti RSP, Brig AASP Tilakaratna and Brig IGRG Bogodawaththe awarded medals, certificates and trophies to rest of the winners. Afterward, Colonel of the Regiment addressed the audience and stated, maximum supports will be provided for the each game consecutively in view of uplift the standard of the regiment. Further, Col of the Regt highly appreciated the commitments rendered by Brig GMCKB Ekanayaka WWV RWP RSP psc toward successfully accomplishment of the both competitions. Finally he congratulated to all winners. At last all rank tea was held with participation of the competitors. Council Members, the Centre Commandant, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and a large number of Other Ranks whom took part for the both competitions made their presence during awarding ceremony of Inter Battalion Firing and Chess Competitions 2019.
