Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) paid a visit to the Coordinating Centre of the Sri Lanka Rifle Corps and the Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps (SLRC & SLAPC) and 1 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (1 SLRC) on 16 November 2025.
The military formalities were reviewed with a Guard Turnout awarded by the troops of the1SLRC. Upon arrival, the Commandant SLAVF was warmly received by Lieutenant Colonel W M G L P Weerakoon SLAC, the Commanding Officer of the 1 SLRC.
After the initial formalities, during a session convened as a constructive forum for briefing, the Commanding Officer of the 1 SLRC provided a comprehensive acquaint on the corps’ ongoing activities, enabling the authority and the subordinate command hierarchy to address their concerns effectively.
During the central segment of the visit: the troop address, the Commandant underscored the value of self-awareness, prompting personnel to reflect on key questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What must I do to fulfil my role successfully? He noted that understanding these aspects is essential for effective performance in both military and civilian settings, ultimately contributing to a more productive working environment. Recognizing that mutual respect forms the foundation of military cohesion, he reminded all ranks to honour and appreciate the responsibilities entrusted to each individual. He further highlighted the importance of valuing every duty and striving to excel in one’s respective field, while maintaining accountability and responsibility in all assigned tasks.
Reflecting on the broader journey of life, he observed that individuals are shaped by various guiding values. In this regard, he reiterated the principle that “In the Absence of Caring, Anarchy Begins.” Therefore, he emphasized the continuous need to elevate the military’s standards by fostering the core pillars of professionalism, discipline, and unwavering dedication.
Heading the day’s itinerary, the Commandant SLAVF carried out an inspection of the ongoing operations at the Coordinating Centre SLRC & SLAPC. Upon arrival, the Commandant was received by Colonel A R D De Silva KSP, the Coordinating Officer of the SLRC & SLAPC. Subsequently, the Commandant SLAVF held a formal meeting with the Staff Officers of the Coordinating Centre and the Commanding Officers of 1 and 2 SLRC and 1 and 2 SLAPC.
In honour of the visit of the Commandant SLAVF to the respective establishments, mementos were presented to him. Marking the visit, the Commandant SLAVF placed complimentary notes of appreciation in the Visitors’ Books of the establishments. The event was attended by the Principal Staff Officer SLAVF, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks representing the Headquarters SLAVF and Coordinating Centre SLRC & SLAPC and 1 and 2 SLRC and 1 and 2 SLAPC
