Major General B M R J Bandara, the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), paid a formal visit to the Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka National Guard: the pivotal establishment overseeing the Volunteer Battalions of the Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) at Wehera, Kurunegala, on 21 July 2025.
Upon his arrival, he was warmly received by Brigadier L W S R Wettasinghe, the Centre Commandant of the SLNG. As a mark of respect for the sacrifices of fallen heroes, Major General Janith Bandara laid a floral wreath at the Fallen War Heroes Memorial, honoring the velour of the soldiers of this prestigious Regiment. The visit continued to the 9 th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard, Heraliyawala Camp, where the Deputy Commandant inspected a Guard Turnout from the troops of the SLNG, and he attended the other military formalities aligned with the visit.
Following the initial formalities, the Commanding Officer of the 9 th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard delivered a detailed briefing on the battalion's current undertakings and operational activities.
As the troops headed to the main event of the day, the Deputy Commandant addressed them pertaining to the significance of fostering combat discipline in order to prevent drug addiction and unethical behavior that damages the reputation of the Sri Lanka Army. He also emphasized the consequence of sincere participation in the establishment's operations with military excellence, assiduously upholding the Army's traditions with loyalty, integrity, commitments, and professionalism.
The Deputy Commandant concluded his visit with a complimentary remark in the Visitors’ Book, commending their standards and incorporation in functional and administrative domains towards achieving the desired establishment’s aims and objectives.
The occasion was attended by Colonel B R W M R A B Thoradeniya – the Deputy Centre Commandant SLNG, Senior Officers and Officers who represented the Headquarters SLAVF and the Sri Lanka National Guard.
