VOLUNTEER FORCE BIDS ADIEU TO THE COMMANDANT, MAJOR GENERAL LANKA AMARAPALA RWP RSP ndc psc

Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, 59th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, officially handed over his duties and responsibilities on 10th February at the Volunteer Force Headquarters. The esteemed officer now steps into the pivotal role of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, the third most senior position within the institution.

Major General Lanka Amarapala was warmly received by Brigadier B M R J Bandara, Deputy Commandant (Overlooking), along with the Principal Staff Officer and the Commanding Officer of the Headquarters Battalion. In keeping with military tradition, the ceremonial proceedings began with a Guard Turnout presented by troops of the Sri Lanka Engineers.

The outgoing Commandant paid tribute to fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the memorial of the late Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV, honoring the sacrifices made in defense of the nation’s territorial integrity. To commemorate his impactful tenure, the staff of the Volunteer Force Headquarters posed for a group photograph with the outgoing Commandant.

Addressing the troops, Major General Lanka Amarapala expressed heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Volunteer Force for their dedication and collaboration during his tenure. He urged them to support the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative championed by His Excellency the President, emphasizing its focus on fostering ethically driven values and sustainable practices. He highlighted that the initiative aims to cleanse not only the environment but also the hearts and minds of individuals. Additionally, he encouraged the troops to uphold Army discipline and resilience, aligning with the nation’s aspirations.

As a symbolic gesture of handing over duties, Major General Lanka Amarapala signed the official documents and penned a message in the Visitors’ Book, encapsulating his journey and aspirations for the Volunteer Force. He unveiled his portrait in the office of the Commandant, adding to the legacy of distinguished leaders who have shaped the Volunteer Force.

The day’s proceedings reached the culmination with the departure of Major General Lanka Amarapala amidst greetings of Officers and Other Ranks who gathered on the occasion for his future endeavors. His leadership and commitment have left an indelible mark on the Volunteer Force, as he now embarks on his new responsibilities as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.
