A VISION FOR A CLEAN AND DISCIPLINED FUTURE: THE COMMANDANT (OVERLOOKING) OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE ADDRESSES THE OFFICERS

Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Commandant (Overlooking) of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), addressed the Officers of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force at the Volunteer Force Headquarters on 21 st January.

Major General Lanka Amarapala’s speech was a call to action, aligning with the vision set forth by His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka. The centerpiece of his address was the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, launched by His Excellency Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the President of Sri Lanka. This program aims to synergize environmental sustainability and waste reduction nationwide while fostering moral and ethical values. He further emphasized the Army’s significant responsibility in ensuring the success of this initiative, under the guidance of the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha, and the stewardship of the Commander of the Army.

He emphasized discipline as the foundation of military excellence, highlighting the urgent need to combat indiscipline, drug addiction, and unethical behavior that tarnish the Army’s reputation. Major General Lanka Amarapala stressed the importance of genuine engagement between officers and soldiers to assess their well-being and address their concerns while upholding the Army’s traditions with integrity and professionalism. Linking these efforts to the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, he urged officers to take proactive steps to improve personal and professional conduct, thereby contributing to the nation’s progress and fostering broader societal change.

The speech concluded with a call for unity and collective effort. “Together, we can achieve anything and do wonders,” he proclaimed. Major General Lanka Amarapala encouraged officers to lead by example, foster a culture of mutual respect, and inspire their teams to contribute positively to the nation’s progress.

The Commandant’s address powerfully reminded the country of the critical role played by the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force in shaping a disciplined, sustainable, and ethical future. It challenged and inspired all officers to rise to their responsibilities with honor and dedication.

The address was attended by the Deputy Commandant (Overlooking), Brigadier Coordinating Officers, Colonel Coordinating Officers, Liaison Officers, Commanding Officers, representatives from Volunteer Battalions, and officers of the Headquarters in the Volunteer Force, both physically and virtually.
