Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, the 58th successor in the office of the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force handed over his duties abiding to the military formalities in order to take up his new errand as the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) of the Sri Lanka Army, the third most senior position in the organization, on 03 January 2025 at the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force.
The formalities observed at the Headquarters premises in keeping with military traditions commenced with reviewing of a Drive Past salutation presented by the troops of the 2 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry.
Adding the tenure to the great legacy of the Commandants in the Volunteer Force, the Senior Officer unveiled his portrait at the office of the Commandant, and placed his signature on the Visitors’ Book following the formalities of the relinquishment of duties at the office of the Commandant. The Commandant posed for a group photograph with the staff of the Headquarters in the Volunteer Force.
Addressing the troops, the outgoing Commandant extended his gratitude for the members of the Volunteer Force who integrated with him in realizing organizational objectives during his assignments of duties. Further, in the bliss of commanding the Volunteer Force, which is the first historical military establishment of the country, the outgoing Commandant viewed his anticipation on realizing scheduled initiatives during his tenure.
The day’s proceedings reached the culmination with the departure of Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe amidst goodbye cheers of Officers and Other Ranks who street lined on both sides of the road leading to the main entrance.
Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe served the Volunteer Force as the Commandant, demonstrating exceptional leadership and professional expertise. In addition to his new role, he continues to serve as the Colonel of the Regiment in the Gajaba Regiment, underscoring his deep-rooted commitment to the Army and its personnel.
