VOLUNTEER FORCE BIDS ADIEU TO THE OUTGOING DEPUTY COMMANDANT MAJOR GENERAL W G P SISIRA KUMARA RSP

Having accomplished a remarkable tenure as the 33 rd successor in the office of the Deputy Commandant, Major General W G P Sisira Kumara RSP relinquished his duties as the Deputy Commandant of the Volunteer Force and retired from the Sri Lanka Army on 08 th October 2024 at the Headquarters, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) amidst series of military honours.

The Deputy Commandant was received by the Principal Staff Officer, the Centre Commandant –Sri Lanka National Guard and the Commanding Officer of Headquarters Battalion of the Volunteer Force, and customary formalities observed in connection with the termination of office, commenced with the reviewing of Guard Turnout accorded to the outgoing Deputy Commandant on his arrival to the camp premises.

The outgoing Deputy Commandant along with several Senior Officers, then proceeded to the monument of late Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV and laid floral wreaths and saluted the War Heroes who gave their lives for the Nation.

Brigadier J M T N B Karunathilaka, the Inspector of Training of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force received the outgoing Deputy Commandant and ushered him to the saluting dais to receive the Guard of Honour awarded by the troops of Sri Lanka National Guard amidst melodies of patriot songs.

Later, the senior officer unveiled his portrait at his office as a souvenir and the troop address was taken place at Rendezvous Pavilion. During the address, the outgoing Deputy Commandant expressed his sincere gratitude on cooperation and active integration in realizing the expected objectives throughout his tenure by all staff of the Volunteer Force.

After a while, the outgoing Deputy Commandant posed for a group photograph with the staff of the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force.

The proceedings of the day reached the culmination with the departure of the outgoing Deputy Commandant amidst good-bye cheers of the Officers and Other Ranks who street lined on both sides of the road leading to the Main Gate.

In the evening the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force hosted a formal farewell dinner in honour of the senior officer’s thirty six years of service at the Officers’ Mess, Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Artillery.
