A charitable initiative that benefited the community and all in the call of duty, was launched under the direction of Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), on 10 November 2025 at the Headquarters SLAVF. The programme was shouldered and patronized by the Lions International District 306 D6 who are community-oriented volunteers.
The programme consisted of donation programmes for community groups and medical clinics were conducted to provide essential medical care. The donations worth of Rs. 1300000.00 included school accessories for school children, packs of nutrition for pregnant mothers and packs of dry rations for civil employees. Children, who have been receiving prolonged treatments for severe illnesses, were awarded financial endowments which facilitates in continuing their future medical care.
A mobile eye clinic was operated and it facilitated a comprehensive eye examination and related services that directly to provide services such as vision correction, and treatment and health directions for eye conditions such as eye cataract. As a major initiative of the day, a blood donation programme was held in liaise with the staff of the Blood Bank and a large amount of donors donated blood.
Strengthening the Army's role in national development efforts presenting saplings by the Lions to the Commandant, SLAVF symbolically aligned with the nationwide effort to promote environmental sustainability, ethics and social transformation during the programme. In addition, two computers were donated for the use of the Headquarters SLAVF.
The Commandant SLAVF especially extended his gratitude to the representatives of the Lions International District 306 D6 for their entire itineraries undertook for the day. Lion Mahesh Boralugoda PMJF PMAF JP - District Governor 306 D 6, Lion Major Thushara Samarathunga (Retd) MAF JP - District Governors Principal Programme Coordinator Senior Additional Cabinet Secretary Lion District 306 D 6 were presented mementos by the Commandant SLAVF in appreciation of their spirits of generosity on the launch of this charitable initiative at the Headquarters, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
The event was successfully organized with the collaboration of the respective branches of the Headquarters SLAVF under the guidance of the Principal Staff Officer, Brigadier Logistics, Inspector of Training, Brigadier Administration and Senior Officers in the Headquarters SLAVF. A special homage is paid to Brigadier N Mahawithana KSP, Brigadier Coordinating Officer (Volunteer) of the Security Forces Headquarters (Central) for coordinating the event. The occasion was attended by senior officers, officers, other ranks and beneficiaries of the serving members.
