THE VOLUNTEER FORCE WARMLY GREETS THE 60TH SUCCESSOR IN THE OFFICE OF THE COMMANDANT

Major General D K S K Dolage USP nps psc assumed duties as the 60 th successor in the office of the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on 13 February 2025 at the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force amidst military formalities.

Upon arrival, the newly appointed Commandant was warmly received by Brigadier A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc - Principal Staff Officer, Brigadier N H J Mangala - Centre Commandant of the Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) and Colonel H P D A Wijesekara - the Commanding Officer in the Headquarters Battalion of the Volunteer Force.

The newly appointed Commandant paid his tribute by laying a wreath on the memorial of late Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV in the gesture of cherished memories of fallen war heroes who sacrificed their innumerable lives to safeguard the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity on this soil.

Afterwards, the senior officer was ushered by Brigadier B M R J Bandara - the Deputy Commandant (Overlooking) of the SLAVF to the saluting dais, and a spectacular military Guard of Honour was awarded by the troops of SLNG.

The Commandant attended the official formalities of taking over duties in the new appointment at the auspicious time amidst the blessings of all religious rites and rituals. In line with the itinerary of the day, the senior officer planted a sapling in the camp premises for the memory of the day of assuming duties.

Paying salutation and honour for the Volunteer Force: the oldest military establishment in the Sri Lanka Army originated in 1881, the Commandant marked his maiden address spelling out the significance of revitalizing the spirit of volunteering that is ever saluted and honoured by this nation while extending his sincere gratitude to Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the Commander of the Army for his trust on appointing him as the Commandant of the Volunteer Force. The senior officer recalled the distinguished assignments executed by the Volunteer Force as the counter part of the Regular Force in eradicating terrorism from this land and other remarkable contributions made voluntarily by the members of the Volunteer Force during the post-war era. Further, the senior officer painstakingly emphasized on the conduct of a serving member who should be mannered with loyalty and moralities in the face of societal hazards in different nature.

In particular, the Commandant spelled out the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative set forth by His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka that fosters a transformative nation flourished with ethically driven values and the sustainability.

The Commandant concluded the first note to the troops passing an inspirational motive for future assignments of obligations that should be adhered by every member.
