In the wake of severe flooding that affected thousands and damaged homes across the country, disaster-relief troops of the Volunteer Force carried out a distribution of essential relief items to affected families in the Kotmale and Hanwella areas in collaboration with Siyatha TV.
This humanitarian effort was conducted under the guidance and close supervision of Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF). His leadership enabled troops to swiftly coordinate with local authorities and provided timely assistance to the most vulnerable households.
The initiative performed as a part of the on-going Sri Lanka Army National Relief Campaign. Troops reached some of the most affected villages of Niyangandara, Rambodagama, Poodalu Oya, Dansinan, Wewegama, Morape and Maswela in the Kotmale region as well as several affected communities in the Hanwella area.
Essential stuffs including dry rations, drinking water, and sanitary items were distributed among displaced families currently accommodated in temporary shelters.
The Sri Lanka Army will continue its relief operations as a part of its commitment to supporting communities during times of national need. Residents expressed their gratitude to the Army for the immediate response, which helped ease the hardships faced in the aftermath of the disaster.
