THE VOLUNTEER FORCE OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY CELEBRATES 76TH ARMY DAY

“Army Day,” a day of profound significance for the Sri Lanka Army, is commemorated with deep reverence, marked by religious observances, solemn official ceremonies, and a series of meaningful commemorative events.

In line with this tradition, the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) organized a series of events to celebrate the 76th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, under the direction and guidance of Major General K V N P Premaratne, RSP USP nps, the Commandant of the SLAVF.

On 10 October 2025, a solemn ceremony was held to symbolically mark the day. Commemorating the critical period during which every inch of the land was hard-won in the pursuit of peace, the Army song was solemnly recited. This was followed by the observance of a two-minute silence in honour of the War Heroes who laid down their lives to safeguard the sovereignty of the motherland

The special message issued by the Commander of the Army on the occasion of the 76th Army Day was then read aloud. In his message, he highlighted the pivotal role of the Sri Lanka Army as the central force in eradicating terrorism from the motherland. He further emphasized that, in the post-war era, the Army has remained steadfast in its commitment to meeting the nation’s vital needs.

A large gathering of officers and other ranks from the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, including civilian staff, participated in the commemorative events of the 76th Army Day.
