In recent years, online gambling and gaming have become increasingly popular due to its convenience and accessibility. However, it also poses several dangers that need to be taken seriously and in contemporary context it is widely spread among army personal. Having understood the timely importance of this danger, the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force organized a lecture on consequences of online gambling and gaming under the directions of Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndcpsc, the Commandant (Overlooking)-SLAVF.
In commencing the first training day programme in the year 2025, Major M H M S BandaraLsc MI who is performing as a General Staff Officer 2 at the Directorate of Media and Psychological Operations delivered the lecture on this pertinent topic.
During his lecture, he emphasized that online gambling can lead to significant money problems as victims may spend more than they can afford, chasing losses or hoping for a big win. This can result in debt, unpaid bills, and even bankruptcy, making it hard to manage daily expenses. Moreover, he highlighted that compulsive gambling can have profound and long-lasting consequences such asrelationship problems, legal problems, poor work performance, poor health, suicide andsuicide attempts.
Moreover, he spotlighted that the importance of not being a victim of online gambling and online gaming.
The training day programme was closely supervised by Brigadier B M R J Bandara, Deputy Commandant (Overlooking) SLAVF and gathering of 20 officers and 120 other ranks presented the lecture.
