RELINQUISHMENT OF THE 57TH COMMANDANT OF THE SLAVF AMIDST SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS AND WELL-WISHES

Major General B K G M L Rodrigo RSP psc IG, the 57th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force returned to the HQ SLAVF to handover his duties and responsibilities in the office of Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force in a simple ceremony on 02 December 2024 after assuming his new position as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.

A series of formalities observed in connection with the relinquishment of the appointment, commenced with the reviewing of Guard Turnout accorded to the outgoing Commandant on his arrival to the venue. The senior officer was received by Brigadier B M R J Bandara, Deputy Commandant (Overlooking), Brigadier A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP, Principal Staff Officer and Colonel H M A Pushpakumara, Commanding Officer of theSri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.

The outgoing Commandant laid floral tribute to the monument of late Captain SaliyaAladeniya PWV and saluted the War Heroes who sacrificed their lives for sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation

Afterwards, the outgoing Commandant posed for a group photograph with the staff of the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force leaving impressive recollections of a true leader who rendered a commendable service for the betterment of the establishment and its successors.

Later, the Senior Officer placed his signature on the Visitors’ Book following handingover the duties at the office of the Commandant. In accordance with the military customs, the Senior Officer unveiled his portrait adding his tenure to the great legacy of Commandant of the Volunteer Force.

Addressing the troops, the outgoing Commandant extended his gratitude for the members of the Volunteer Force who integrated with him in realizing organizational objectives during his assignments of duties. Further, he outlined on incorporation with organizational enhancement preserving the quality and legacy of a proud establishment. Moreover, He recalled the memories of those who assisted to climb the ladder of his professional life and he also emphasized that a soldier should always behave as a disciplined and exemplar person to the society.

After a while, the outgoing Commandant was accorded all rank tea and he had a cordial interaction with officers and other rank during the tea party.

The day’s proceedings reached the culmination with his ceremonial departure which signified by a traditional street line stretched up to the main entrance of the SLAVF amidst showers of blessings and well-wishes of every member of the SLAVF.
