THE COMMANDANT OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE VISITS 4 (VOLUNTEER) BATTALION SRI LANKA ENGINEERS AND 2 (VOLUNTEER) BATTALION SRI LANKA GENERAL SERVICE CORPS

Major General D K S K Dolage USP nps psc , the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) paid a field visit to 4 (Volunteer) Regiment Sri Lanka Engineers and 2 (Volunteer) Battalion Sri Lanka General Service Corps (2 (V) SLAGSC) on 08and 09 May 2025.

The two-day visit was part of the Commandant’s effort to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the battalion’s operational and battle procedures, with the objective of gaining a first-hand understanding of the working environment of the establishment.

The breakdown of the Commandant’s address mainly focused on the role of a soldier, highlighting his duties, responsibilities, and accountability within the military context. During his address to the troops, the Commandant reflected on the proud history of the respective two battalions, tracing their legacy back to the origins of the Volunteer Force, which laid the foundation for the formation of the Sri Lanka Army. The Commandant highlighted the dual responsibility borne by members of the Volunteer Force: the duties and accountability of a soldier within the military structure, and the contributions of a professional from diverse backgrounds and technical streams.

In conclusion, the Commandant encouraged all personnel to uphold the high standards and values that define the Volunteer Force, and he called on troops to preserve the dignity of the Army through maintaining both physical and mental well-being, while actively avoiding harmful practices such as drug abuse, online gambling, and money gambling.

The Commandant specifically emphasized the importance of the Government-led “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, which seeks to foster a sustainable future through transformative attitudes, ethical values, and committed service.

The Commandant concluded his visit with complimentary remarks in the Visitors’ Books of the respective battalions, commending their standards and contributions to national service. In particular, Major General Kapila Dolage, will be remembered in the history of the 2 (V) SLAGSC as the first Commandant of the Volunteer Force to visit the battalion.

The event was attended by Brigadier Coordinating Officer of the Security Forces Headquarters (West), Colonel Coordinating Officer (Volunteer), Liaison Officer (Volunteer), Senior Officers and Officers who represented the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force and the corresponding Volunteer battalions.
