Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, paid a formal visit to the Regimental Center of the Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) at Wehera, Kurunegala, on 5th February.
Upon his arrival, he was greeted with a drive-past salutation from the Sri Lanka National Guard troops and warmly welcomed by Brigadier NHJ Mangala, the Centre Commandant of the SLNG. As a mark of respect for the sacrifices of fallen heroes, Major General Lanka Amarapala laid a floral wreath at the Fallen War Heroes Monument, honoring the valiant soldiers of this prestigious Regiment. The visit continued to the Heraliyawala Camp, where he received an elegant guard turnout and a ceremonial Guard of Honour. A group photograph marked the occasion, and a sapling was planted to symbolize environmental sustainability and a greener future.
Addressing the troops, Major General Lanka Amarapala highlighted the significance of the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative launched by His Excellency, the President of Sri Lanka. He stressed the Army's responsibility to ensure its success, under the guidance of the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha, and the leadership of the Commander of the Army. He underscored the role of military personnel in achieving the initiative's objectives through exemplary behavior, self-discipline, and ethical conduct. Additionally, he emphasized upholding the Army's dignity by maintaining physical and mental well-being and taking proactive measures to prevent drug abuse and online gambling. Following his address, Major General Lanka Amarapala joined an all-ranks tea , interacting with personnel of all ranks to foster camaraderie and mutual respect.
Later, Major General Lanka Amarapala addressed all the officers, focusing on themes such as self-respect, national security responsibilities, subordinate welfare, and fostering unity within the ranks. He described the present as a renaissance period for the nation, driven by the transformative aspirations of the "Clean Sri Lanka" project, which aims to instill a cleaner mindset and attitudes across society. He emphasized accountability at all levels of leadership, urging officers to engage meaningfully with their subordinates to promote well-being and professional growth. He also stressed the importance of embodying the Army's core values as lived principles and maintaining strict adherence to correct financial procedures.
To commemorate his visit, Major General Lanka Amarapala recorded his appreciation in the Visitors’ Book. The occasion was attended by the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, senior officers from Volunteer Force Headquarters, Commanding officers of the Regiment, and officers of the Sri Lanka National Guard.
